Cindy, I finally found my way over here ;-)

I really like your "digital fingerprints" metaphor. That is very well put. I also like how you segregate the groups into types... I do wonder though if some of the industry groups I am a part of would be considered an "A" or "B" group, in your opinion? They almost seem to cross both landscapes to a large extent.

I think that is why I am so disappointed in the comment-turnout, as it were.

Needless to say, you hit home with where LI needs to focus its attention, IMHO.

Great write-up and thanks for the link-back. It's nice to know someone somewhere is actually digesting this stuff - even if it's not on LI ;-)

I have found LinkedIn groups to be fairly painful. I am at best an infrequent contributor. At worst a user/abuser. I mostly just join groups so people can find me. But I am not convinced that works either.

I think it's funny that LinkedIn does not consolidate groups like my Rutgers Alumni group where there is 3-4 versions of the same thing!

I wouldn't want all of my mailing list posts to show up on LinkedIn. Would be nice if I could go in and review posts and approve the ones I want to appear.

In some ways, this is what the Google profile is trying to do, too - giving you a place to aggregate what you want people to know about you.

I just added mine - http://www.google.com/profiles/cindy.alvarez
