As many would say, "you get what you pay for". That saying somehow applies to the quality of a certain product as per its price. Although I might say not on the Flip camera. It's reasonably priced but the quality is comparable to some expensive cameras/gadgets.

I agree with you Cindy but not 100%, the guys were just doing their job. If the shop doesn't have what you want or doesn't make much margin on the product you want then they have no proper ROI.

If they loose a considerable set of customers like you then its a serious problem for them which i agree with you.

Quality is very personalized, Yes i do like simple things but if the simple lacks quality i don't want that product.

I am not sure if others agree with me but when i was looking to buy speakers for my iPOD i looked at many speakers and at last i brought B&W Zeppelin.

Majority of the iPOD are simple to use but none could match the quality of Zeppelin.

I strongly feel i am still a newbe to product management but the three most important things a product manager has to look for 1. Simplicity and easy to use (User experience)
2. Quality 3. Target Audience

why do people buy BMW, Mercedes when any four wheeler can work for them? Its all about what the customers want and how much they are willing to spend.
If i make BMW a simple to use car but not focussing on the quality? Will customers love their BMW ? I don't know !!

Cindy,

I love this post. I think each customer has a certain expectation of what is perfect for them, and we (as product managers) should know that. That's called a target market! And if someone does their market research, they'll learn that it takes many types of cars, houses, clothes, software AND diamonds to satisfy all the demands in the market. I think you've brought up good points on the value of understanding your market through LISTENING :)
